Things to Do
The advantage of being out here: most of what people drive to Chiang Mai for is closer to us than it is to the Old City. Distances below are from the lodge gate.
On the doorstep
San Kamphaeng Hot Springs
Ten to fifteen minutes by road. Geysers, mineral pools to soak in, and the local ritual of boiling eggs in the spring water. An easy half-day that gets you back in time for the pool.
Muang On Cave
A Naga serpent staircase of about 185 steps takes you up to the cave mouth, with the view opening out before you reach the top. Monkeys watch from the trees — keep your snacks in your bag.
Bo Sang Umbrella Village
The handicraft village in our own district, where the painted paper parasols are made and the streets are hung with them. A short ride, and a good one on a scooter.
Huai Lan Reservoir
Flat water held in forested hills, minutes away. The local answer to a sunset — go late in the afternoon and be back before dark.
Doi Ton & the Lake District
Ten to fifteen minutes to a string of quiet reservoirs including Ang Kep Nam Doi Ton, with the mountains reflected in them. A gentle outing rather than a hike.
Crazy Horse Buttress
You can see the limestone ridge from the lodge. It is the best known rock climbing in Chiang Mai, with routes for beginners upwards, a short drive from here.
Into the hills
Straight out of the gate
The trails start where the property ends — gentle reservoir loops through to steeper climbs. No transport needed, and you can be back for lunch.
Doi Ngom
Fifteen to twenty-five minutes away in Mae Takhrai National Park. A genuinely challenging hike with a panorama at the top that earns the sweat.
Mon Jing Mountain
Twenty to forty minutes out, for the Mon Jing Loop over Doi Nang Mo. Big views, a proper morning's work.
Day trips
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
Chiang Mai's most famous temple, high on the mountain west of the city. Forty-five to fifty minutes from here, and best done early.
Doi Inthanon
The highest point in Thailand, two to two and a half hours southwest. Waterfalls, cool air and a full day out — leave after breakfast.
Golf
Alpine Golf Course is barely two miles away, under ten minutes. Chiangmai Highlands is a short drive further. Both have the mountains as a backdrop.
Or stay where you are
Plenty of guests arrive with a list and never get through it. There is a pool, a hot tub, a swim-up bar, a gym and a pool table here, and the kitchen is open.
